DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS LITTLE BIRD IS?
Yesterday afternoon this little bird came for some afternoon nibbles. Its about the size of a Blue Fairy Wren..looks a bit penguinish. Its an Austrailian native but I can't find out what it is. I have never seen one of these round here like this.

I've no idea! But it looks very inquisitive... i wonder if it's had far to travel to get to your feeder this season? :)

It looks like a finch of some sort, but it is too big for being a finch..hmm, it is lovely.

I have a fabulous bird book, but it's only for North American birds, with a few tropical species that occasionally migrate here. I like the second picture especially - looks like he's smiling!

Ah-ha! Homework procrastination has brought you an answer: the cute little guy is a Double-Barred Finch. You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-barred_Finch and here: http://www.ozanimals.com/Bird/Double-barred-Finch/Taeniopygia/bichenovii.html
