The death and injury toll continues to rise sadly

At least 166 people are dead and 24 blazes remain out of control as Victoria's bushfire crisis enters its fourth day.
The death toll from the bushfires is certain to rise further as more remains are found in more than 700 burnt-out homes strewn through the 330,000ha so far razed in Australia's worst bushfire disaster.

The big fires and their terrible destruction are all over the news here. Many prayers have been said for all involved. Hope it is brought under control soon.

I'm reading in the news that they think some of these fires were started by arsonists? That's just... I'm at a loss for words...

And in response to your other post: please don't stay with your house if a wall of fire is headed your way, no matter what the firemen may have told you in the past. There's no heroism in risking your life of the sake of material property. If you've seen some of the recent National Geographic coverage of forest fires in the western U.S., fires will actually skip trees and demolish houses. They have pictures of neighborhoods completely destroyed - everything except the actual vegetation. So, please, get the hell out of there if the time comes.

Sky News just said 5000 people are now homeless, and the death toll has risen yet again, as we knew in our hearts it would.

And yes most fires are being treated as crime scenes, but the good thing is that the police are confident of making arrests, and if fact have already started doing so.

Hey MC:

I have been getting snippets of news up here...sounds devastating to say the LEAST! And to hear that many of the fires are arson. May the person(s) who did this burn in hell! I do not understand the cruelty mankind can do to one another. My prayers are with you and your kinsmen. Keep us posted dear friend.

Horrific and mind blowing. I so hope they find some of those responsible!
