And for what?

As Foxymoron said...another young Australian soldier dead in Afghanistan - and why is this not a major issue in the federal election to take part on Saturday -

Where are the students on the street, the moratoriums, the strikes?

Its like no one cares enough about anything any more...

how many are there injured - we are never told. How many are mentally shattered.

And for what?

I was somewhat mollified about our involvement in Afghanistan because it was under the auspices of the United Nations, but clearly it is an un-winnable battle. If the nearly so accountable Russian Army couldn't win there, it is joke that we can. Pull our troops out.

The whole big mess in that part of the world is a no-win situation. Bring them home.

I agree!

We have recently lost a local soldier there as well.

I had no idea Australia was even involved in this shameful debacle. Never a week goes by over here without another coffin being escorted home. We are meant to live a democracy, public feeling over here seems heavily against this wasteful war - yet, still we are mired in it. A law was recently passed especailly recently, to dis-band the full time protesters camped outside the Houses of Parliament. Shameful.

Therese, everytime they announce another death, I automatically think of how many Afghani innocents have been killed as well.
I don't mean the insurgents but just the women and kids in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It's a credit to the training of our men that more haven't been killed.

Andrew - even Alexander the great gave up on conquering the area now known as Afghanistan

Mom Bring them home exactly - another two were killed the day before our federal election on Saturday and barely made the news - we have such a small force over there and no one is talking about the wounded

Anne - what are we fighting for?

Middle Child said...

Shrinky - as i said to Andrew even Alexander gave up on Afghanistan -

Wow, I served over there and didn't even know the Australians were involved. I did spend a day hanging out with some Kiwi soldiers. Those guys were great! Knew their stuff, weren't full of themselves, easygoing - they just quietly did their job and relaxed when they could.
