Another bird I haven't seen before. This large bird landed outside this morning. It has a very loud call almost as if it had a megaphone - It has a strange way of constantly jerking its hear about and was just lucky to get these photos this clearly because of that. I have heard this bird away in the distance but never before has it come so close to the house. Its larger and much more solid than a Maggie

Would it be some type of small hawk or falcon perhaps?

Looks like a young female Common Koel (and no I did not know that! In true homeschool fashion I spent the last half hour trying to find it as I was curious! LOL)

I found the pictures here....

haha thats ok. I first checked our bird book but could not find it then went looking on line. I think because the male looks so different it was a hard one. Beautiful bird though hey?

Foxymoron I have seen some scary looking ants hereabouts as well

Karisma - the Common Koel is actually a cuckoo so some poor bloody birds nest will get trashed when the eggs a are laid and the chicks will get pushed out by the baby cuckoo - I hope its not the magpies, Willy Wagtails, Lorikeets etc which abound round here

Cazzie - thats okay and a happy birthday to you as well

Wow, you took some great sharp, clear shots of this fella, well caught! I have no idea who he is, but he sure is a pretty little thing, isn't he?
